Tech Brief Describes Low-cost Approach to Creating FMCW and Chirp Test Signals

We're pleased to announce the release of our latest Tech Brief "Generating Precise FMCW and Chirp Signals with Low-cost Devices". It addresses the need for advanced radar system designers to be nimble in the field without losing sophisticated signal generation capabilities, such as high-speed frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) and frequency modulation on pulse (FMOP), or "chirp" generation. Those designing microwave test sets for receivers in highly precise radar systems, such as anti-spoofing and anti-jamming applications, will find this Tech Brief useful.

Solid-state digital signal generators are a key tool used in the development, testing, and mainte¬nance of critical radar technology, and traditional full-featured bench-top units may always have their place in certain applications requiring the feature set. But there are many circumstances today where the cost, size, complexity, and fragility of these costly and bulky units mitigates their usefulness. In these cases, rugged, portable, and programmable digital signal generators, such as Vaunix Lab Bricks, offer a low-cost and extremely adaptable solution to solving a variety of radar testing challenges. The Tech Brief provides insight on this self-managed approach and offers tips and tricks on how to get up and running fast—and with confidence in every pulse.
